The Amazing Race Around the World event is right around the corner!
This summer challenge will be held on July 28 at the Josey Ranch Lake Library from 3:00-6:00p.m.
Permission slips are required. Stop by either library to pick one up OR print out this one (PDF).
We want the challenges to be a surprise, but I will tell you that you will be outside for part of the Race. Bring sunglasses and apply sunscreen (if you burn easily). Also, you will probably get wet. Bring a towel…and maybe a change of clothes.
Hope we see you there!

The ZOMBIE Beatdown, that is. The Zombie Beatdown is coming SOON to the Josey Ranch Lake Library. It’s an after hours like no other–this one is going from 8:30p.m. to MIDNIGHT!
We have all kinds of fun stuff planned including zombie related carnival games, a Thriller danceoff, and a game of zombie tag (previously advertised as Capture the Flag but, hey, things happen). You are welcome to come in costume but nothing TOO gruesome or graphic, please–take it easy on your fainthearted librarian.
You will most definitely need a permission slip. You can print this one out (PDF) or stop by either library to pick one up. Oh, and some of the permission slips went out with the wrong date so if you know anyone who’s already picked one up, please tell them that it’s on OCTOBER 23 NOT October 22.
So here’s what you need to know in a nutshell:
SATURDAY, October 23
8:30p.m. – midnight
Carrollton Public Library at Josey Ranch Lake
Hope to see you there!
Today’s the day: THE HUNGER GAMES TOURNAMENT! You’re coming right? We’re doing teams of two so if you can, bring a buddy, a pal, an amigo. If they’re all busy, don’t worry–we’ll be pairing people off during the reaping.
Whatever you do, don’t forget to bring your SIGNED permission slip!
Off to continue setting up. See you this afternoon!
All craziness is breaking loose here! I just got back from vacation and am swamped with all the summer madness–hence the lack of updates. You know me, it will be some time before I get caught up. =)
I just wanted to remind you that we do have some teen events coming up:
TEENS TAKE OVER – July 13, 6:30p.m.-8:30p.m. at the Josey Ranch Lake Library (1700 Keller Springs Road) Pick up your permission slip at either library or print this one (PDF).
HUNGER GAMES TOURNAMENT – July 29, 3:00p.m.-6:00p.m. at the Josey Ranch Lake Library (1700 Keller Springs Road) Pick up your permission slip at either library or print this one (PDF).
Hope to see you there!
Sorry about the lack of updates, guys. I’ve been trying to get everything Summer Reading related up and running. But now that’s mostly done so…
PHEW! For those of you in the know, last night was our first Teens Take Over of the summer. What a turnout! Almost 30 teens showed up which I think was most excellent!
Sadly, I had to work the lobby for a lot of the night, but my favorite part of the night was definitely watching the Hide and Go Seek madness! If you were there, I hope you had fun. If you weren’t, we missed you! Hope to see you all next month!
Pictures are coming soon!
We had our first ever Capture the Flag program at the library – the Fang versus Fur Challenge – and it was a BLAST! We had 13 flags equal to a total of 100 points in each team’s territory with the highest point flag hidden inside a helium balloon. Sneaky things that we are, we had 12 other balloons with flags worth nothing inside them! Psych!
The lights were out except for the emergency lights, and we had spider webs across the aisles and between the bookshelves. Half the building was Fang territory belonging to the vampires and the other half was Fur territory belonging to the werewolves. A random drawing of a team glow stick on a lanyard determined your side. (Yes, trading was allowed.)
You were safe in your own territory but if you were tagged across the border you got escorted to the other team’s jail. The only way out of jail was for a teammate to make it across the jail threshold without getting tagged. Then, you both had safe passage back to your own territory. You had to wait until you crossed the border before you could go after another flag.
It was total mayhem! Everyone had a great time. The wolves won with a total of 94 points to Fang’s 42 points. Ah-rooooo!
We want to thank everyone for their patience as we worked out little problems like tangled lanyards and what to do when one of the teams ends up with everyone in jail after only 15 minutes of battle! We are SOOOOOOO doing this program again…but it will be a while!
There aren’t a lot of pictures because the library was too dark but check out the few we got before the fun started.
