We talk about so much good stuff at our Library Subcommittee meetings that I thought, why keep it to myself? From here on out, I’m going to try to post notes from our monthly meetings.
Summer program planning is almost in full swing. This summer’s events include:
Details on all will be coming soon!
For the reading part of this summer, those are still being worked on as well. Basically, you
- Submit a book review-preferably online
- Get an entry into our WEEKLY drawing.
- Everyone who submits a book review will be invited to our invitation only end of summer party.
As an added extra bonus, you can submit a glog (and that’s a typo) you make about a book. Glogs will be judged and voted on during our party. The most favorite glog will get…something. Curious about glogs? Get a sneak peek at www.glogster.com. More about THAT as the time gets closer.
Even though summer is barely here, we have to start planning for the FALL! I know, right? Brainstorming has begun for Fall activities. We’d like to tie in some events that tie in with the Teen Read Week theme: Books with Beat @ your library®. Ideas that were thrown out include (but are not limited to):
- Zombie party/lock in
- Twilight Zone marathon
- Open Mic night
We especially need help trying to find days and times that will work for teens. If you have any input about what days and times will work best and/or you have a suggestion, leave a comment.
Be on the lookout for anime DVDs at the H&J library! To make an epic story short, we are adding anime DVDs that were set aside for our now defunct anime club into the library collection! We asked the subcommittee if we should mix the DVDs in with the adult stuff or put them in teen and the unanimous response was TEEN! If you are an anime fan or just plain curious, keep your eyes peeled. They will be shelved in the Teen Graphic Novel section.
The anime discussion brought up a point that had me reminding the subcom that the library wants to carry the books YOU want to read. If there is anything that YOU think we absolutely must own, let us know! Times are tight and we can’t get everything, but it helps to know you want it!
Well, that’s most of what we talked about. If you have any questions, leave us a comment. If this has got you curious about what the subcommittee is all about, join us at our next meeting on Wednesday, May 26 at 6:30pm. We meet at the Josey Ranch Lake library.
