During the Cover to Cover Book group (which meets today at 5:30pm) we will be talking about Scott Westerfeld’s Uglies. Here are just a few reading suggestions for those of you who want to read more books along the same vein.
If you read Uglies you definitely have to read the other books in the series:
The diary of Pelly D by L.J. Adlington
When Toni V, a construction worker on a futuristic colony, finds the diary of a teenage girl whose life has been turned upside-down by holocaust-like events, he begins to question his own beliefs.
The bar code tattoo by Suzanne Weyn
In the near future, Kayla finds herself running for her life when she refuses to get the mandatory bar code tattoo on her seventeenth birthday–a decision that renders her a social outcast and places her and her family in grave danger.
Feed by M.T. Anderson
In this future, everyone has a feed (much like a skintenna) implanted into their heads. Through this feed you are constantly bombarded by commercials that switch depending on what you’re thinking, feeling and/or your environment. Find out what happens when Violet attempts to thwart the feed. If you can get your hands on the audio version of this book, I highly recommend that you do. It’s amazing.
